Nearly 10% of the 3.6 billion prescriptions written by physicians in 2013 were not dispensed to patients, with patients abandoning 3% of prescriptions and insurers rejecting 6% of claims at the point of sale, according to an April 2014 report from the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics.
