How College Students Benefit from the Affordable Care Act

1.    Preventive Care: It’s true that college students are generally healthy, but it never hurts to get into the habit of taking care of yourself on a regular basis

2.    Pre-Existing Conditions: Although many college students are less likely to have pre-existing conditions serious enough to be turned down for insurance, there are still some that face this problem

3.    Parents Coverage: Reminiscent of the days when a parent could write a permission note for a child to skip school, the ACA has a permission slip for students too–being able to stay on parents policies

4.    Loan Repayment for Medical Students: There will need to be a more primary care physicians. Funding is provided for the NHSC Loan Repayment Program

5.    Improved School Health Plans: University health plans aren’t sufficient for serious accidents or ongoing illnesses. The ACA will require medical loss ratios of 80-85% and eliminates lifetime caps
