According to a recent report, from 1999/2000 to 2010/2011:

  • The national percentage of private-sector firms offering employer-sponsored health insurance fell from 58.9% to 52.4%
  • Single-person health insurance premium costs doubled (from $2,490 to $5,081)
  • Family premiums rose 125% (from $6,415 to $14,447)
  • Employee contributions increased (from 17.5% to 20.8% of the total premium)
