The more you want, the more it costs...

A recent report compared premiums and deductibles of health plans that covered a comprehensive list of eight health benefits (Laboratory and X-Ray; Emergency Services; Prescription Drugs; Chiropractic; Maternity; OB/GYN; Periodic Exams; and Well Baby care) to the average premiums and deductibles for all plans surveyed, and found:
  • Average monthly premiums for individual health insurance plans that covered all eight benefits were 47% higher compared to the average for all plans ($279 vs. $190)
  • Average monthly premiums for the family health insurance plans that covered all eight benefits were also 47% higher compared to the average for all plans ($605 vs. $412)
  • Average deductibles for individual plans that covered all eight benefits were 27% lower than the average for all plans ($2,257 vs. $3,079)
  • Annual deductibles for family health plans that covered all eight benefits were 16% lower than the average for all plans ($3,422 vs. $4,079)
