Agents and brokers can review the
cover sheet to understand what consumers will receive with their Form 1095-A,
“Health Insurance Marketplace Statement.” The cover sheet includes information
explaining that consumers must file a 2015 federal income tax return if a member
of the household received advance payments of the premium tax credit (APTC) in
2015, why the Form 1095-A is available, and how to use it.
As a reminder, consumers will
receive a cover sheet and populated Form 1095-A if they or a member of their
households were enrolled in a qualified health plan through the Marketplace for
any months in plan year 2015. Please see the following link for additional
forms and applications: https://Marketplace.CMS.gov/applications-and-forms/notices.html.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services (CMS) will continue to provide emails in the coming weeks with
information on tax season readiness and tools.
While you may share information
with your clients about the APTC reconciliation process and the forms they will
receive, it is important that agents and brokers not provide any tax filing
advice or answer any tax filing questions. Please refer clients seeking answers
to their questions or advice regarding their personal situations to tax
professionals for assistance. For more information on the tax assistance
options available, direct consumers to visit IRS.gov/freefile
or IRS.gov/VITA.
