According to a new analysis reported at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference:

Over 28 million baby
boomers will develop Alzheimer's disease between now and 2050.
·
In 2020, the projected
Medicare costs of Alzheimer's is $11.86 billion, or 2.1% of total Medicare
spending.
·
Projected Medicare
costs for Alzheimer's will increase to 24.2% of total Medicare spending by
2040.
·
A treatment that
delays disease onset could save $220 billion within the first five years of its
introduction.
·
50.1% of baby boomers
will have Alzheimer's in 2050 when they are all 85+.
·
When the 1st baby
boomers turn 70 in 2016, Alzheimer's in their age group will jump from 1% to
2.5%.
