Medicare trust fund insolvent by 2028, trustees say

Medicare trustees say the Medicare trust fund will remain solvent until 2028, two years earlier than previous Obama administration estimates, but later than the Congressional Budget Office projection of 2026. No Independent Payment Advisory Board will be convened this year, as Medicare spending growth has averaged 1.4% per person from 2010 to 2015, lower than growth in GDP per capita and overall health spending per capita. Spending is projected to grow at 6.9% annually over the next 10 years.
