According to a recent report, reasons uninsured persons ages 18 to 64 give for remaining uninsured include the following:


  • 46% - tried to get health coverage but it was too expensive
  • 13% - don't think the requirement applies to them
  • 11% - tried to get coverage but were unable
  • 9% - would rather pay the fine than get health insurance
  • 7% - didn't know about the requirement to have health insurance
