If Kentucky moves its state-run exchange to the federal platform,
...... it will need to forfeit $57.5 million in unused
federal funds that were awarded to the state to build Kynect, acting CMS
administrator Andrew Slavitt explained in a letter to Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin
(R). Kentucky received a total of $289.2 million in federal funding for the
exchange. In late December, Bevin sent a letter to HHS Sec. Sylvia Burwell
explaining that his administration would "wind down and cease
operation" of Kynect and transition to the federal platform. The state had
been among the most successful in coordinating functions between the exchange
and the Medicaid program. Bevin intends to complete the transition by Nov. 1, The Courier-Journal
