ACA Exchange Plans Have Fewer Providers Than Commercial Plans


Avalere recently released an analysis on provider offerings in Affordable Care Act exchange plans compared to commerical plans. Here are some key findings from the report:

·         The average ACA exchange plans include 34% fewer providers than the average commercial plan.

·         There are 42% fewer oncology and cardiology specialists in exchange plan networks.

·         Exchange plan networks have 32% fewer mental health and primary care providers than commercial plans.

·         There are 24% fewer hospitals in exchange plan networks.

·         Care provided by out-of-network providers does not count toward the out-of-pocket limits in exchange plans.
