Racial Disparities in Health and Healthcare


The Huffington Post recently released a report on inequalities in health and healthcare for minority groups. Here are some key findings from the investigation:

·         Two-thirds of medical professionals display unconscious racial bias.

·         Black women have a 79% breast cancer 5-year survival rate, while white women have a 92% survival rate.

·         People of color were 9 times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV than white individuals in 2010.

·         Black children are 2 times more likely to die during their first year of life than white children.

·         20.2% of black children are obese, compared to 14.1% of white children.

·         Black individuals of any age are 3 times more likely than white individuals to die from asthma.
