1 in 4 Americans Report Difficulty Paying for Prescription Drugs


The Journal of the American Medical Association recently released an infographic illustrating recent trends in prescription drug costs. Here are some key findings from the report:

·         1 in 4 people in the United States who take prescription drugs report difficulty affording them.

·         Medicare's share of national prescription drug spending rose from 2% in 2004 to 29% in 2014.

·         The average price of the drug Humira is 15% higher in the US than in Canada.

·         3 in 4 Americans favor limiting the amount companies can charge for hepatitis and cancer drugs.

·         86% of Americans favor requiring drug companies to release information about how they set prices.

·         The average price of the drug Enbrel is 35% higher in the US than in Canada.
