New Enrollees Filled 35% More Prescriptions Than Existing Members


Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) recently released their Health of America report on new Blue Cross Blue Shield enrollees in 2014 and 2015. Here are some key findings from the report:

·         New enrollees have higher rates of HIV and Hepatitis C (41 and 24 per 10,000) than existing members.

·         Inpatient admissions were 84% higher for new enrollees than those enrolled prior to 2014.

·         New enrollees had 48% more outpatient vists than those enrolled prior to 2014.

·         35% more prescriptions were filled by new enrollees in 2015 compared to prior enrollees.

·         ER use among the newly enrolled population was 79% higher than that of the previously enrolled.

·         Monthly spending per member for newly enrolled individuals increased 12% from 2014-2015.
