Survey: 1 in 5 Families Struggle to Pay Medical Bills


The CDC recently released survey results on Americans under age 65 who struggle to pay health care bills. Here are some key findings from the report:

·         From 2011-2014, 1 in 5 persons was in a family that had problems paying medical bills in the past year.

·         The number having problems paying medical bills decreased from 56.5 mil. in 2011 to 47.7 mil. in 2014.

·         15.8% of males were in families having problems paying medical bills in 2015, down from 20.5% in 2011.

·         Females in families with medical financial difficulty decreased from 22.1% in 2011 to 17.3% in 2015.

·         12.7% of those who had private coverage in 2015 were in families having problems paying medical bills.

·         1 in 5 people with public coverage in 2015 are in families having problems paying medical bills.
