Older Adults Need Vaccines Too August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Adults of all ages are encouraged to talk to their doctors about which vaccines they may need to protect their health and prevent the spread of disease. Certain vaccines are recommended based on a person’s age, occupation or health conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes or heart disease. For more information, visit cdc.gov/vaccines/adults/rec-vac/index.html. Medicare Part B pays for the Influenza (flu), Pneumococcal, and Hepatitis B (for persons at increased risk) vaccines. It also pays for vaccines that are directly related to the treatment of an injury or direct exposure to a disease or condition, such as rabies and tetanus.
