Medicare Part B Monthly Premiums Will Increase to $121.80 in 2016

Kaiser Family Foundation recently released an article on Medicare Part B pricing for 2016 and how the numbers differ from initial projections. Here are some key findings from the report:

·         The 2016 Medicare Part B monthly premium and annual deductible are $121.80 and $166.

·         This amount includes a $3 repayment surcharge to cover the cost of the reduced premium rate in 2016.

·         The Part B monthly premium will increase by 16% for 30% of Part B enrollees.

·         70% of Part B enrollees are protected from the increase by the hold-harmless provision.

·         The number of Part B enrollees are projected to increase by 1.4 million between 2015 and 2016.

·         States will save $1.8 billion due to the actual premium for 2016 being lower than the projection.
