The CDC recently released a National Vital Statistics Report on the leading causes of death in 2014. Here are some key findings from the report:

Heart disease was the
leading cause of death in 2014, killing 614,348 people (23.4%).
·
22.5% of deaths
(591,699) were due to cancer.
·
Chronic lower respiratory
diseases, accidents and stroke caused 15.8% of deaths in 2014.
·
Alzheimer's caused
10.5% more deaths in 2014 compared with 2013.
·
5% of deaths among
U.S. women were caused by Alzheimer's, versus 2.1% of deaths among men.
·
Accidents caused 39.7%
of deaths among people aged 10-24 and 7.4% of deaths for adults aged 45-64.
